"Wings of Becoming"
From Chrysalis to Queen!

Presented by Laura, Tabetha, Melanie, Brigid,
and Mandella, and Amalya

1) OUR THEME for Imbolc / Brigit's Day:

The beginning of February marks the moments of early spring, the anticipation for warmer days and the up-welling of Gaia’s fertility. In Celtic traditions Feb 1st or 2nd is the time to celebrate “Imbolc” – a word that means “in the belly of the Mother” because seeds of spring are beginning to stir in Gaia’s womb, and the ewe’s udders are filling with milk.  The season was also associated with the Celtic Goddess Brigid (or Brigit) and then later, her Christianized aspect of Saint Brigid. Imbolc signifies the halfway point between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox, and is a powerful hallmark of hope, fertility and rebirth.  Symbols of the season are lambs, milk, seeds, and Brigid’s icons of healing, (her holy well), smith crafting (her flames and forge) and creativity (especially poetry).

Additionally, this year at the Goddess Studio, we’ve been inspired to include another emblem to celebrate early spring–the Butterfly!

Across many cultures, butterflies are seen as a sacred symbol of spring and messengers between worlds – carrying whispers of the divine, echoes of our ancestors, or representations of transformation and rebirth: as they take flight, so do our intentions. Emerging from the cocoon of Winter, we honor our wings that are forming and preparing us to fly free.

In particular, the butterfly honors the process of “Fight” to “Flight”!  We may not realize this, but the butterfly inside her chrysalis has to fight to break free. This process is nature’s way to strengthen her wings so that she can fly!  This potent metaphor gives us a lot of material to play with for our own empowerment!

What struggles have you endured in your cocoon that has enabled you to strengthen your wings? Who are you in the process of Becoming? How have you gone from “Fight” to “Flight”?

As the signs of spring return–the hills turning green and new blooms beckoning butterflies– let us too transmute the struggles of the past year and transform.  Join us as we emerge from our chrysalis and expand our intentions for this coming year and strengthen our wings to carry us into the light.  Come celebrate with us as we consider these ideas, honor our metamorphosis with crafting butterfly vision boards and dancing, and spread our Wings of Becoming.

Please wear bright spring colors and bring a shawl, veil (or wings if you have some!) to wear during our ceremony.
