Amalya teaches with

Lisa Bonneau  accompanying us
on the dumbek!

Amalya has been delighting audiences since 1993 with her graceful interpretations of Middle Eastern Oriental dance.  With early training in ballet, tap, and Hawaiian dance, then modern and jazz, Amalya has discovered her unique expression of movement in Belly Dance.

Her repertoire embraces various styles of dance including, Egyptian, American Tribal, Turkish, Moroccan, Gypsy, East Indian, and Sacred Feminine. Her performance experience encompasses formal solo concert presentations, troupe dancing, informal "cabaret" performances and sacred dance celebrations.  Her specialty is the veil dance but she is also versed with sword, candles, fan, and cane.

Amalya has studied with many renowned Belly Dance masters and is herself carrying on the legacy of dance instruction through various classes and special event workshops in the San Diego area.  Amalya is also available to perform for private celebrations and special women’s ceremonies.

*****

~~The classes are basically ongoing (with exceptions once in a while). They are more or less a drop-in arrangement, except, I'd like to know, if possible, in advance if you will plan on making it to a class or not, once you have started, so I can look forward to expecting you!

.

~~ Generally speaking of my teaching style, I focus on developing self-esteem, improving isolation techniques and encouraging each woman to develop her own sense of style, and having fun!  So each class we will do a little warm up, hip isolations, combinations, symbols (in intermediate levels), and veil.  And different weeks I'll focus on special movements for hands, arms, floorwork, candle dancing, sword etc.   I don't usually do too many choreography routines, but if the class wants to learn a group choreography, we'll set a schedule for that after we first have some classes together.  I have been dancing for over thirteen years and have been teaching for the past six years here in the North County areas.

~~ What to Wear:  comfortable, aerobic or yoga attire--like tights and sports/jog bra.  Bring ballet shoes if you have them, although we usually dance in bare feet. I have plenty of coin scarves and veils to share too!

~~Also you may like to bring some bottled water and a little "sweat" towel!
